This evening, Thursday, August 31, 2023, under the chairmanship of His Grace Bishop Ermia, General Bishop and President of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center, the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center held a ceremony for awarding the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center Award for Excellence in Mathematics (Mr. Magdy Fahim Award) to honor the top students in High School who excelled in mathematics. This was in memory of his role and dedication in teaching mathematics and his choice to teach mathematics on educational programs on Egyptian television for 40 continuous years, until the press wrote about him as “a private teacher for all of Egypt.”
The celebration began by playing the Republican Anthem and His Grace Bishop Ermia delivered a speech in which he welcomed the attendees and congratulated the outstanding students for their efforts and love for science, wishing them further excellence and success. His Grace pointed out the great role that the Center plays in caring for culture, science and outstanding students through the various activities of the Center. His Grace added that today, August 31, coincides with the commemoration of ordaining the Thrice Beatified Pope Shenouda III, a priest in the Monastery of the Syrian. He chose this day specifically for the celebration for the departed pope had loved and was skilful in mathematics, and for the role played by His Holiness in sponsoring science and scholars, he was the founder of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center. Now his journey is being continued by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and the Patriarch of the See of St. Mark.
Prof. Dr. Nadia Zakhari, former Minister of Scientific Research and member of the Scientific Council of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center, Prof. Dr. Abdel Wahab Ezzat, former president of Ain Shams University and head of the Scientific Committee of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center, and Prof. Dr. Hazem Rashid, Professor of Curriculum and former Dean of the Faculty of Education, Ain Shams University, gave speeches to congratulate the honored students and gave them advice for starting a new phase of their lives that requires perseverance and great effort.
